What is the “Miniaci Test” used for?

  • Shoudler Posterior Subluxation

How to perform the “Miniaci Test”?

  • The patient lies supine with the shoulder off the edge of the examining table. 
  • The examiner uses one hand to flex (70° to 90°), adduct, and medially rotate the arm while pushing the humerus posteriorly.
  • The patient may become apprehensive during this maneuver, because these motions cause the humerus to sublux posteriorly. 
  • With the other hand, the examiner palpates the anterior and posterior shoulder.
  • This test can be done with the patient sitting

What is the positive result?

  • The examiner then abducts and laterally rotates the arm, a clunk is heard, and the humerus reduces (relocates), indicating a positive test.
