What is the "Egawa Sign" used for?

  • Ulnar nerve palsy

How to perform the "Egawa Sign"?

  • The patient flexes the middle digit at the metacarpophalangeal joint and then alternately deviates the finger radially and ulnarly (i.e., abducts both ways)

What is the positive result?

  • If the patient is unable to do this, the interossei are affected. 
  • A positive sign is indicative of ulnar nerve palsy.
