Lemaire Jolt Test

What is the "Lemaire Jolt Test" used for?

• Assess the anterolateral rotatory instability of the knee, most commonly associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficiency and injury to the anterolateral complex

How to perform the "Lemaire Jolt Test"?

• The patient is in side-lying position with the test leg uppermost. 
• For the test to work, the patient must be relaxed. 
• With one hand, the examiner medially rotates the tibia by grasping the foot and medially rotating it with the knee in extension. 
• The back of the other hand pushes lightly against the biceps tendon and head of the fibula while the hand on the foot flexes and extends the knee

What is the positive result?

• In a positive test, at approximately 15° to 20° of flexion, a “jolt” occurs with displacement of the tibia, indicating a positive test for anterolateral instability.
